Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 12 July 2013 – Staff at Neya Systems LCC have provided management for the UCS Working Group since its inception in 2009 through to the latest release, which was published in June 2013. Neya Systems LCC has been selected to continue its leadership of the government-industry team for the next release as the Department of Defense begins integration of the architecture into its UCS programs of record and mandates the architecture in the next generation of UCS acquisitions.
Neya Systems has played a central leadership role in the development of the UCS Architecture, which is a Department of Defense requirement for all UAS in Groups 2 thru 5. These groups include the Air Force Global Hawk, Predator, and Reaper programs; the Navy Triton and Fire Scout programs; and the Army Gray Eagle, Hunter, and Shadow programs.
Staff at Neya Systems have managed the government-industry UCS Working Group through all releases of the architecture including Release 1.0, Release 2.X and Release 3.0, which was published in June 2013. Neya Systems has provided the UCS Working Group Executive Board chair and vice-chair, and chaired the important Technical Review Board and Configuration Control Board. In these positions Neya Systems LCC has managed the activities of over twenty funded companies that represent the leading prime contractors, subsystem providers, and small businesses in the UAS Ground Control Station (GCS) market.
The UCS Architecture establishes an architecture framework and open interfaces for affordable software development, software reuse, technology innovation, and effective competition to support the Government Better Buying Power (BBP) initiative. The architecture supports the GCS Open Business Model (OBM) and the government-managed UCS Repository for services/applications. Together these initiatives will foster a vibrant UCS ecosystem to bring critical UAS capabilities to the Warfighter more quickly and affordably.
The goals, principles, and concepts of the UCS Architecture are being adopted in adjacent Department of Defense and NATO robotic domains including maritime and ground robotic systems. This larger effort will further the Government vision of seamless interoperability between its entire portfolio of unmanned systems and those of its allies.
Neya Systems is proud to have supported the Department of Defense in driving these transformative changes into the important and growing unmanned systems market and looks forward to continuing this role as the UCS Architecture moves into the sustainment phase.
